This page describes exactly what “tested” means on this site, so you can decide how much weight to give a verdict.
What “tested” means here
- We own it or borrowed it. If a guide says we tested something, it was physically in our space. If we have not used an item, the page says “not tested” or “spec comparison only.”
- We measure. Footprint with a tape measure, assembled height, clearance to the lowest joist, bench pad height, dumbbell handle diameter. Our numbers sometimes disagree with the manufacturer; when they do we publish both.
- We use it for weeks, not an afternoon. Wobble, pad compression, knurl wear, and whether the thing is still in use after a month tell you more than a first impression.
- Photos are ours. Every product photo on a tested guide was taken in our space. We do not reuse retailer or manufacturer images.
What we do not do
- We do not claim long-term tests we have not run. Guides are dated and updated when something changes.
- We do not rank products by commission rate. Retailer links are listed by price, lowest first, with the date we checked.
- We do not accept free products in exchange for coverage. If a brand ever sends something, the page will say so.
Prices and the data pages
Prices shown on this site come from retailer product feeds or were manually checked, and every price carries the date and time it was recorded. Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on a retailer’s site at the time of purchase will apply to the purchase of that product. Pages built mainly from retailer data rather than hands-on use are labeled as such.
